Minnesota Spray-Foam Insulation was started in the spring of 2001 by the current owner, Jay Engelmeyer; with one truck and one part-time employee. The company offered Closed Cell Spray-Foam, Open Cell Spray-Foam, and Blown-in Attic Insulation. At that time, the company was operating out of a small building in St. Rosa, MN.
Along with the growing demand for a more energy efficient insulation product, Minnesota Spray-Foam Insulation added a second ‘spray-rig’ and 3 employees to help with new construction projects and attic insulation.
Business expanding to the Brainerd Lakes area and north, brought the need for a third ‘spray-rig’ to insulate lake homes, cabins and businesses.
In early summer, Minnesota Spray-Foam Insulation moved their main office to its present location along I-94 in Albany, MN. In September, a fourth ‘spray-rig’ was added for applying roofing foams over large, flat commercial roofs.
By late fall, a second location was needed, and a new shop was then opened in east Brainerd. With the addition of another location came the need for 4 more employees, and a branch manager. Mike House joined the team of Minnesota Spray-Foam Insulation as the Brainerd branch manager, and took on the responsibilities of estimating, sales, and scheduling for that area. With the knowledge that Mike possessed in the Fiberglass Batt Insulation, the company was able to provide full service for new construction.
The company of Minnesota Spray-Foam Insulation invested in equipment to apply thermal barriers such as sprayed cellulose and intumescent coatings over foam insulation. Thermal barriers are required where spray-foam is to be left exposed.
Increasing demand for spray applied roofing foams and acrylic coatings on flat roofs also helped the growth of the company, and a full-time bookkeeper was hired for the main office in Albany, MN.
Ever expanding their service area, Minnesota Spray-Foam Insulation had the need for another person for sales and estimating. Josh Seidel joined the team, to cover the Alexandria to Ottertail area. Josh brought new ideas and the ambition to serve the entire western portion of Minnesota.
Another ‘spray-rig’ was added to the fleet of trucks, and a weatherization crew was added. Removal of old attic insulation that had been damaged by fire or water, was an added service using a attic insulation vacuum. New Blown-In Insulation can be installed, increasing the R-value, and saving both energy and money.
To better serve customers in the Alexandria, Morris, Fergus Falls and Moorhead areas, a new shop was opened in Alexandria, MN, near the airport. Josh Seidel was promoted to the branch manager for that shop. Having a shop in Alexandria allowed for better service and extending into North Dakota and South Dakota.
Continued growth in the Brainerd Lakes region prompted the move from Brainerd to a new building in Baxter on Cypress Drive. Mike House continues to manage that shop and service the area east from Brainerd/Baxter into western Wisconsin.
